Our Story
Black Lightning Farm opened in 2020 after COVID-19 put the world on hold. I had always gardened and now I had an abundance of time to dedicate to it. After speaking with many customers, I saw the concern in the community about the shortage of food in grocery stores and knew I could help my neighbors learn to be less dependent on big food chain stores. There were so many what-ifs in the world, especially with limits being placed on consumers by their local grocery stores, that nervousness in my community grew. I knew I could help, so I opened Black Lightning as a small stand that has only grown and offered gardening classes to educate adults and children on how to grow their own produce. Black Lighting hosts field trips and sponsors projects for local early childhood learning centers to expose children to the importance of growing, harvesting, and consuming food. Black Lighting aims to have an indoor classroom to host a hands-on-learning environment for children and adults.
Black Lighting Farm is a self-serve stand based on the honor system. I may not always visible, but I am always working behind the scenes to improve Black Lighting and make the experience better for consumers.
