Owens Farm is a 112-acre oasis of rolling pastures and mixed woodlands. David and Caroline Owens moved here in 2008 with their 3 children, having started farming in New Hampshire in 1992. They primarily raise sheep and honeybees. David is an avid beekeeper, with a passion for quality. He manages his hives using traditional methods that do not rely on chemicals. He raises his own queens, so they and their offspring are adapted to Pennsylvania. He does not move his hives for pollination, nor does he buy and resell other people's honey. This assures the purity of his raw honey which is sold at a self-service stand at the farm, and at the Lewisburg Farmer's Market. On the sheep side of things, the farm flock currently numbers 350 Katahdin ewes. Owens Farm sells lamb directly to customers by pre-ordered half or whole. People order in the spring, and receive their meat in the fall. The Owens flock can also be seen on two local solar sites, where they keep the grass under control instead of lawnmowers. David and Caroline also raise and sell meat chickens and Thanksgiving turkeys, and offer overnight Farmstays in a cozy guesthouse. HOW TO BUY FROM US: Self-serve honey stand is always open.
