Our Story
The hill farm consists of 23 south and east-facing acres in Fairview Township, York County, on the south slope of Reesers Summit, from which the Susquehanna River can be seen two miles to the east. Since the 1800s the land had been farmed by the Gurtner family, whose 99 year old last member died in 1979. When Edgar Gurtner passed away, Beshore family members purchased the farm at auction and Marvin and Anne Marie moved to the farmstead with 2 toddlers in 1981. The majority of the land was in a crop rotation supporting the dairy cows of Beshore Farms until 2015.
Dedicated to producing the freshest, nutrient-dense vegetables and herbs, Beshore Hill Farm was started in 2017 and acquired USDA Organic Certification in 2018. We strive to keep the land in food production using sustainable farming methods for improving the soil. This is done without the use of pesticides, herbicides or any artificial chemical additives.
From the start our commitment has been to provide the freshest, most nutritious organic produce at our farmstand, the “New Cumberland Farmers’ Market on 4th”, and other pop-up locations. For the 2020 season, we have added two new 14’ x 100’ ‘caterpillar’ hoophouses to continue toward the goal of year-round production and sales of delicious, fresh vegetables. Expanding the packhouse and cooler will further allow us to provide for the safest, freshest snacks, salads and ingredients more months of the year.
