Our Story
Shaffer's Pumpkin Patch was started in 1985. The Shaffer kids raised pumpkins for a 4-H project and had a few left over to sell. They borrowed old clothing from their parents, Orah and Dorothy Shaffer, and created two dummies, Ma and Pa farmer, in their Grandma's front yard. That was such a hit with the neighbors that each following year new characters were added.
After the kids moved out, Orah and Dorothy Shaffer kept up the tradition until Orah's passing in 2014. That is when Orah's daughter Rebecca Montgomery and husband Rennie took over the family business.
In 2016, the pumpkin patch moved to their farm located at 1160 Meadville Pike just north of Franklin. The tradition will continue on with their children Rex and RaeLynn Montomery.
